LARGO — If it wasn’t over as quickly as it had begun, it sure was close.
Within two minutes, Largo (7-2, 3-0 in 6A-7) had returned two fumbles for touchdowns Friday night against Dixie Hollins. By the end of the first quarter, Dixie Hollins (2-7, 0-3) found itself on the short end 28-0 as the Packers rolled.
“It seemed like one of those games where everything you do works,” Largo coach Rick Rodriguez said. “We were clicking on all cylinders.”
One of those cylinders was running back Jarvis Stewart, who had touchdown runs of 26 and 30 yards in the first half. Stewart carried the ball 12 times for 139 yards, more than half of the Packers’ total for the game.
Quarterback Isaiah Thomas was also impressive, completing 6 of 9 for two TDs, both to Raheem Harvey. The second came on a tough catch in the corner of the end zone.
Dixie Hollins fell behind quickly when Largo returned a fumble on a muffed punt. On the Rebels’ first play of their next possession, they fumbled on a completed swing pass, and Jacorrie Riley returned the ball to put Largo up 14-0 only 1:55 into the game.
“We played Packers football,” Rodriguez said. “Relentless offense, defense and special teams.”
Dixie Hollins’ Tyrie Adams led the Rebels to two fourth-quarter TDs, including a 5-yard pass to Davontae Harrington, his top target for the game. Harrington had seven receptions for 108 yards.
