In a season opener that wasn't pretty and was slim on offense, the hero of the night was the kicker.

Senior placekicker Alejandro Chavez made field goals of 37 and 47 yards and narrowly missed a 54 yarder, helping the Longhorns to a 13-6 win over Bloomingdale Friday night.

Lennard (1-0) came back from a 6-3 second-half deficit.

"You've got to hand it to the kids," Lennard coach George Edington said. "We had a lot of penalties and we weren't at our best, but the kids grinded out 10 points in the second half."
