TRINITY — Mitchell pulled off a dramatic, last-minute 29-25 win Friday night over Lecanto.
The Mustangs were shut out 13-0 in the first half after Lecanto (2-4) rushed in two touchdowns, both from 4 yards out.
The second half provided plenty of offense and fireworks as both teams battled back and forth. Mitchell (4-3) finally got on the board on its opening drive of the third quarter when quarterback Taylor Schneider took the 8-yard run up the right side to pull within six points.
Lecanto’s next drive resulted in a fumble that the Mustangs capitalized on. Ryan Marsh gave Mitchell the lead after his explosive 34-yard touchdown run. The Panthers answered with a 5-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter for the 19-14 lead.
The fireworks continued on the next play when Marsh topped his previous run with a 46-yard run down the sideline giving Mitchell the lead yet again. Four minutes later, Lecanto took the lead again.
The play of the night belonged to Mitchell, though, when with just 1:05 left in the game, Schneider launched a 55-yard pass to Zach Rapaport for the final score.
