Nature Coast has posted its football head coaching vacancy on the Florida High School Athletic Association's Web site.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 19. A copy of the advertisement is below this post.

The position was posted internally and attracted just two candidates - Sharks defensive coordinator Charles Liggett and former Hernando coach Rodney Byrd. Liggett removed his name from consideration last week, citing concerns about time and family.

The position also attracted a handful of resumes from outside of the county, though those names have not been released.

The opening is one of six North Suncoast football head coaching positions this offseason.

* Zephyrhills filled its opening Jan. 22 when it announced it had hired alumnus Reggie Roberts. He replaced co-interim coaches Troy Hochstetler and Greg Mathis.

* Wesley Chapel is zeroing in on a second list of interviews with finalists expected to be named soon. The school is looking to replace John Castelamare, who is in the Deferred Retirement Option Program and in his final year of teaching.

* Central has closed its advertisement and will release its list of applicants this week. The school is looking to replace Cliff Lohrey, who was fired after four seasons.

* New schools Fivay (Pasco County) and Weeki Wachee (Hernando County) have yet to begin the hiring process as both search to fill athletic director positions.

Nature Coast's job opened after it fired Mark Lee, whom the school found did not mesh with the program.

Liggett was widely believed to be the favorite, so his withdrawal indicates Nature Coast is looking far and wide for the best candidate.
