ST. PETERSBURG — Northeast earned its first win of the season, defeating Clearwater 41-34 in a game that came down to the final minute.

Both offenses started slowly. The only touchdown in the first quarter came on a recovered fumble in the end zone by Northeast’s Devonte Williams.

The Tornadoes (0-8, 0-4) started driving at the end of the quarter. They capped the drive with a 4-yard run by freshman Adarius Lemons.

The Vikings (1-7, 1-3) took a two-possession lead on a pair of rushing touchdowns by senior running back Keith Harrington, who finished with 129 yards on 12 carries.

Clearwater came right back, striking for a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Garrisin Bryant to wide receiver Dean Murray.

Northeast extended its lead to 28-14 on the last play of the first half, when quarterback Jeff D’Alvia hit wide receiver Darius Lacy for a 49-yard touchdown.

The teams went score for score in the second half until late in the fourth quarter with the Vikings leading by seven. After forcing a punt,

Clearwater had a chance to tie with about a minute left.

However, Bryant threw an interception, the Tornadoes’ fifth turnover of the game, and the Vikings ran out the clock.
