Pasco can clinch the Class 3A, District 7 title Friday with a win at Mitchell.
The Pirates (6-1, 5-0) are not touting that fact as a huge motivational boost, but coach Tom McHugh isn't hiding from the potential title clincher.
After wins against Gulf and Land O'Lakes making this the third district powerhouse in a row, McHugh is looking for new ways to spin his speeches.
"You can only use it's the biggest game of the year so many times," McHugh said. "You have to find a way. If you win, you win the district. Hopefully its added motivation. Only bad things happen to us if we lose this game."
If Pasco loses, then there is potential chaos in terms of the playoff picture. And of course if Mitchell (8-0, 5-0) wins, the Mustangs will be in position to win the district if they can defeat Land O'Lakes a week from Friday.
One factor weighing on some minds is if Mustangs running back Ricky Trinidad will play in Friday's game. Trinidad has been classified as questionable by coach Brian Wachtel with a sore back.
Wachtel did not immediately respond to a message Thursday afternoon.
McHugh seemed to have the answer for whether or not Trinidad, who did not practice this week, will play.
"These kids saw that and said that's garbage," McHugh said. "I don't know if people think high school people are stupid. They know he's playing. I would be really surprised if that kid didn't come out there and play. If he's really hurt he shouldn't play."
