PINELLAS PARK — The Pinellas Park defense turned in a stellar performance Friday night.
The Patriots forced five turnovers, and Rashaan Watson recorded two interceptions after a sluggish start as the Patriots scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter en route to 35-0 win over Boca Ciega.
The Patriots struck first on Donte Maxson’s 4-yard touchdown run. Kel-El Williams followed with a 3-yard run to put the Patriots up 14-0.
Late in the second quarter, Pierre Johnson’s 5-yard run elevated the score to 21-0.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Patriots continued to play smash-mouth football with their brutal running attack. Alonzo McCray ran 12 yards for a touchdown to put the Patriots up 28-0 early in the fourth.
The Patriots added one more score, a 6-yard run by Marco Perez.
“The team stayed together after a sluggish start and also we grinded it out and played physical football,” coach Kenny Crawford said. “Any time defense creates turnovers we feel like we can win games.”
