Riverview defensive backs coach Jason Munsch will take over the Sharks football program for the remainder of the season, athletic director Kevin Massena said Tuesday.
Munsch will replace Bruce Gifford, who resigned Monday morning for health reasons.
Massena said Munsch will only serve as an interim head coach and a search for a new head coach will begin at the end of the season. Massena expressed Monday that he wanted to appoint an interim coach that was a faculty member at the school – and only two members of Gifford’s staff are on Riverview’s faculty.
“He’s not interested in being the head coach at the end of the season with all his teaching responsibilities,” Massena said of Munsch, who teaches anatomy and physiology at the school.
This is Munsch's second year on the football staff. He is also Riverview's boys track coach. He was previously a college track assistant at the College of Charleston, Central Missouri and Bowling Green.
Munsch’s appointment will be announced to the team today.
