WINTER HAVEN — Seffner Christian wasn’t about to back off in this one.

The Crusaders secured a Sunshine State Athletic Conference playoff spot with 41-0 win  at All Saints’ Academy on Friday.

Seffner (7-1) — last year’s SSAC runnerup — scored two touchdowns in the opening minute to take a 13-0 lead, highlighted by Robbie Shell’s 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game.

“We jumped on (Windermere Prep) last week 21-0 and we let them get back in it,” Seffner Christian  coach Steve Lewis said. “But we were trying very hard and reminding ourselves not to let that happen again.”

Seffner running back Marcus Richardson rambled for three touchdowns, scoring on runs 5, 6 and 18 yards.

Crusaders quarterback Caleb Newman was just as impressive, scoring on a 35-yard run in the first half  then firing a 20-yard touchdown pass to Shell late in the third quarter. The senior finished  9-of-14 for 80 yards while rushing for 85 more.

“We’re a little bit more diverse this year,” Lewis said.
