ST. PETERSBURG — Shorecrest Prep was victorious on  homecoming night, beating Bishop McLaughlin 40-0.

The Hurricanes’  opening kickoff went out of bounds and  the Chargers  started  at their  35-yard line. They then produced a 65-yard drive  capped  by a 4-yard  run by  Chad Swindell.

Shorecrest then took advantage of a fumble by Bishop McLaughlin (1-5) early in the second quarter when  quarterback R.J. Perciavalle  missed a pitch. The Chargers recovered  then went on  another scoring  drive, this one ending on a 7-yard  pass from  Travis Dugan to  receiver A.J. Lanza.

Shorecrest (2-3) took a 21-0 lead into halftime after adding another touchdown late in the second quarter , as Dugan connected with  receiver Aundre Fredericks  on a 49-yard  pass with just 14.6 seconds left.

The Chargers  cruised in the second half. Midway through the third ,  junior quarterback Sam Grant came in for Dugan. Although he fumbled two of his first snaps, he recovered and later ran for a 4-yard touchdown.

Two  backup running backs for Shorecrest also added touchdowns runs in the second half.  Sophomore Aaron Stypinski had  a 15-yard run in the third quarter.  With three minutes left in the game, freshman Jonathan Dacres scored on a 14-yard run.

Swindell led the way for the Chargers, picking up 123 yards on 19 carries.
