Football: Shorecrest 59, Northside Christian 0

ST. PETERSBURG — Shorecrest Prep played a crisp game on both sides of the ball and dominated host Northside Christian on Friday night 59-0.

The Chargers, giving former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Dave Moore a win in his coaching debut over former teammate Mike Alstott, scored on their first five possessions to take a 29-0 lead by  the second quarter. Garrett Schulte, who had 66 yards on 13 carries, scored two of his three touchdowns in the first half.

Northside, seemingly overmatched, hurt its cause with sloppy play and turnovers. Miscues on kickoffs hurt the team’s field position. The Mustangs fumbled twice deep in their own territory on consecutive series as the third quarter began, and Shorecrest converted both for touchdowns to take a 52-0 lead.

The final score came on a 34-yard pass from backup quarterback Travis Dugan to Tyler Knapp. Though he didn’t throw for a touchdown, starting Chargers quarterback Sam Grant was impressive as he led his team down the field, and completed 8 of 14 passes for 98 yards.

Schulte, a big back who runs more downhill , gave his blockers credit for his success.

“My line always makes holes for me,” Schulte said.
