ST. PETERSBURG — Big plays on special teams and defense helped St. Petersburg cruise past Boca Ciega on Friday.

Two interceptions led to 14 points for the Green Devils (4-1). Consecutive blocked punts in the second half accounted for two more touchdowns.

When the Pirates (1-4) got off a good punt late in the third quarter, Jake Moore returned the kick to the 2-yard line. On the next play quarterback Rob Tribolet floated a pass to Pro Wells to put the Green Devils up 35-0.

Davon Conyers intercepted a Boca Ciega pass in the third quarter, setting up St. Petersburg’s final score. Two plays later, Tavon Jones took the ball 40 yards into the end zone.

Moore also came up big early in the game when he intercepted Boca Ciega in the first quarter, returning the pass 45 yards to put St. Petersburg up 14-0.

Coach Joe Fabrizio commended his team for turning up the intensity as the game progressed.

“The kids did a great job in the second half,” he said.
