Playing without standout running back Ryan Green for the first time, visiting St. Petersburg Catholic came through with a dramatic 23-21 win over Crescent City. Garrett Vallerio kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired for St. Petersburg Catholic (2-0).

The drive was kept alive when Jack Sheehan hit Marcus Ruppell on a 33-yard pass on fourth and 23. Sophomore Jaquan Fuller, who replaced Green as the top running back, carried 11 times for 104 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 44 and 3 yards.

Brandon Slater added 63 yards on seven carries and scored on a 42-yard touchdown.

Assistant coach Dave Cleppe said Green had surgery Friday morning on a torn labrum. He said Green called his teammates to congratulate them on the win. “It was very emotional,” Cleppe said.
