LARGO — St. Petersburg Catholic won its regular-season opener 28-13 at Indian Rocks Christian on Friday. The Barons got a strong performance on the ground, rushing for 242 yards and four touchdowns. Stephon Williams rushed for 74 yards and two TDs, and Jacquan

Fuller rushed for 65 yards and two TDs.

Defensively the Barons were led by senior Chris White who recorded two interceptions in his own territory to end two major scoring chances for IRC.

Indian Rocks hung tough, answering Williams’ first touchdown with a 5-yard touchdown run by Damian King to cut the lead to 7-6 in the first.

On their first possession of the second half, the Golden Eagles briefly took a 13-7 lead on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Ross Johnson to King. King finished with 70 receiving yards, 12 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

St. Petersburg Catholic immediately regained the lead at 14-13 on Fuller’s 5-yard touchdown run and never relinquished it. Fuller added an 11-yard scoring run later in the third, and Williams capped off the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
