HUDSON — Sunlake clinched a playoff berth thanks to Springstead’s victory against Land O’Lakes, then looked like a playoff team in defeating Fivay handily.

On their first offensive play of the game, junior running back Nathan Johnson ran for an 80-yard touchdown for the Seahawks (8-1, 3-1).

At the end of the first quarter, the Seahawks were up 27-0 and the Falcons (3-6, 0-4) never caught up. A tough defense led by senior linebacker Ben Wood held Fivay within their own territory until nine minutes remaining in the game.

Another impressive performance by Nathan Johnson proved why the Seahawks are playoff bound. He ran the ball 12 times for 163 yards and had two rushing touchdowns.

“We knew that this was a big game … We took control of our destiny and are now in the playoffs,” Johnson said.

A couple of Sunlake seniors had standout games. Quarterback Esteban LeWallen went 3-for-5 and had 67 passing yards. He threw a 41-yard pass to senior running back Wanya Lamar.

Running back Ricardo Williams ran the ball four times for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Falcons senior quarterback Eric Vitale provided the majority of the offense for his team and also was all over the field on defense. The only points Fivay was able to muster was an impressive 50-yard field goal by sophomore Josh Jones in the fourth quarter.
