Former Anclote running back Travis Hendrix has accepted a scholarship to play for New Mexico Military Institute.

“I’m just happy I get to showcase my talent while I’m getting an education,” Hendrix said Thursday. “I’m going to have to put a lot of work into this opportunity, and I’ll have to work even harder.”

The 5-foot-9, 173-pound back rushed for 1,227 yards on 145 carries and scored 10 touchdowns. Hendrix had five catches for 123 yards and made 24 tackles on defense. Hendrix’s older brother, Tyrone, who played wide receiver at Mitchell from 2005-08, played for the

Broncos from 2009-10 then went on to play at Morgan State in Baltimore.
