Former Gulf baseball star Brandon Decker recently hauled in several top accolades as a senior at Valdosta (Ga.) State.
Decker was named South Region Player of the Year and first-team all-region from Daktronics and CoSIDA this month. He also was named Player of the Year by ABCA and the NCBWA.
Decker batted .426 and hit a region-high 21 home runs. He was second in batting average, first in home runs and second in RBIs, finishing with 78 on the season in the South Region.
Decker has turned his focus toward the Major League Baseball draft.
"It's sad that it's over (at Valdosta State), but hopefully I'll be able to get drafted and move on to better things," Decker said. "I've had a bunch of teams talk to me. I talked to a (San Francisco) Giants scout and they said they wanted to get me. I tend not believe any of that because I don't want to get my hopes up."
