Former Jefferson running back Demetrius Russell, a 1,200-yard rusher on last season's Class 3A state title team, will be attending a prep school next semester with hopes of transferring to Colgate.
Russell will be enrolling at the Taft School, a prep school in Connecticut, and would transfer to Colgate in the spring, Jefferson assistant Ricky Sailor said.
Russell, who boasted a 4.0 grade point average his senior year, had long been recruited by Colgate.
Russell ran for 1,218 yards and 15 touchdowns for a Dragons team that went 15-0 and beat Miami Norland in last December's 3A state title game. (To read more about Russell, click HERE)
In other Jefferson recruiting news, former receiver Andre Holloway accepted a walk-on offer at North Texas, where former Jefferson head coach Mike Simmonds is an assistant. Holloway made 21 catches for 411 yards and four touchdowns last season.
Also, Dragons linebacker Brendin Straubel will try to walk on at UCF. Straubel, a leader on the Dragons' defense, make 52 tackles last season.
