It’s official: former Middleton WR Richard Benjamin is now enrolled at Tampa Bay Tech, as head coach Jayson Roberts saw him at school this morning.
Benjamin, one of the area’s top recruits for 2013, began his career at TBT before transferring to Middleton for his sophomore and junior seasons. It appeared as if he was headed for Tampa Bay Tech this summer, but he did so without his mother’s permission and was back at Middleton for last year’s 0-10 campaign.
The Titans (8-4) won the Class 7A, District 7 title before losing a rematch against Gaither in the second round of the playoffs. Benjamin will help fill the void left by departing senior RB Cludner Lacount, who rushed for a team-best 1,132 yards and seven touchdowns on 172 carries and also caught a team-leading 38 passes for 511 yards.
The 6-foot-1, 173-pound Benjamin has over 20 Division-I offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others. Benjamin visited Miami last weekend.
