Ten applicants are being considered for the vacant head football coaching position at Land O’Lakes.

Among the more intriguing candidates are former Mitchell head coach Brian Wachtel, who was let go following the 2010 season after guiding the Mustangs to a 13-7 record during his two years.

Also on the list of candidates being considered is Mark Kantor, who spent the last nine seasons on Gaither’s sideline before being dismissed in early December.

Land O’Lakes is searching for a new coach after deciding before the holiday break not to reappoint Matt Kitchie to the position. Kitchie, a physical education teacher at Land O’Lakes, guided the Gators to a 17-3 record and two straight playoff appearances in two seasons but was suspended for the final two games of the 2010 season after an incident involving quarterback Stevie Weatherford, defensive coordinator Jason Hatcher and cheerleading coach Celisa Cook and questions surrounding how Kitchie handled the situation surfaced.

The complete list of applicants for the Land O’Lakes head football coaching vacancy are as follows:

Brian Wachtel: 13-7 in two seasons as Mitchell’s head coach.

Stan Robertson: Robertson has most recently worked as an assistant coach at Ripley High School in Mississippi.

Mark Kantor: Spent past nine seasons as Gaither’s head coach.

William Schmitz: A former Jesuit head coach (2003-04) who also has college head coaching experience at Austin Peay.

Brian Colding: Former Wesley Chapel assistant who joined Tom McHugh’s staff at Pasco this past season.

Tim Stevens: Went 9-41 in five seasons at River Ridge before being let go following this season.

Luke Chichetto: Former USF strength coach (2003-04) who has been a strength coach in the Texas Rangers' minor league organization for the past four seasons, most recently with the Class AA Frisco Roughriders.

Joe Midulla: Former Jefferson defensive coordinator who spent the 2010 season in the same position at Alonso.

Ryan Gallogly: Four-year (2007-10) head coach at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis.

UPDATE: One other applicant has been added to the candidate pool. Joshua Weber, an assistant this past season for Alonso and a teacher at Farnell Middle School in Tampa.
