Former Nature Coast star Tevin Drake was recently cleared by the NCAA to join Western Michigan's football team, the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Gazette reported Monday night.
Drake attended his first practice, though he did not wear pads, according to the report. Drake had been in Florida awaiting the NCAA Clearinghouse to clear a summer class he took to become eligible.
It is unclear if Drake will redshirt this season, though his absence for all of preseason camp might be an indicator.
Drake did not respond to a text message from the Times seeking comment.
Drake finished as the North Suncoast's second-leading rusher of all time with almost 5,000 yards.
