Roughly 24 hours after being picked by Atlanta in the 27th round of Major League Baseball's first-year player draft, former Pasco High star and University of Tampa 3B Jake Schrader signed with the club, his father confirmed.
Terry Schrader didn't reveal specifics of the deal, but said his son, MVP of the recent Division II national championship tournament won by the Spartans, got "a little spending money and his foot in the door." Jake Schrader reports to Orlando today for a mini-camp, then heads to the Braves' rookie-league team in Danville, Va.
"He is super excited about moving on to the next level," Terry Schrader said.
A 2009 Pasco graduate and Spartans senior, Jake Schrader was one of five UT players taken in the draft. The team leader in home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.567) this past season, he hit safely in all five national tournament games, finishing 8-for-18 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
