Former Strawberry Crest LB Daniel Wisnesky killed in motorcyle crash

Former Strawberry Crest football player Daniel Wisnesky  was killed early Tuesday morning in a motorcycle accident in Mango.

A 5-foot-10, 170-pound linebacker, Wisnesky was the third-leading tackler (6.8 a game) on the Chargers' first full-varsity team last year.

He was 18.

Wisnesky was riding his motorcycle east on State Road 574 west of the Interstate 75 entrance ramp when he ran a red light and collided with a Ford Explorer traveling west and making a left turn at the intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Strawberry Crest (0-5) is off this week before facing Armwood next week in a Class 6A-8 district game. First-year Chargers coach Gerold Dickens gave his team the day off from practice Tuesday, and grief counselors were at the school to help students.

“A lot of the kids needed the time to grieve," Dickens said. "Holding their attention on a day like this would be tough. The kids were upset. It was a very tough day and a very tearful day.

"I didn't have a chance to coach (Wisnesky), but he definitely had a big impact here," Dickens added.
