Lakewood defensive end Dante Fowler was suspended for three games Friday, and Boca Ciega quarterback Shaquille Bradford was suspended for one as the Florida High School Athletic Association ruled on the two players' altercation Thursday night.
After Bradford threw an interception against the Spartans, Fowler blocked the quarterback to the ground. Lakewood coach Cory Moore said the refs accused his standout player of head hunting, as the interception was about 30 yards away. Moore said his players was merely blocking a would-be tackler at that point, and added game tape shows Fowler walking away from Bradford as the two players jawed back and forth. Allegedly, punches were thrown and both players were ejected.
Moore said the Spartans would appeal the ruling on Monday. The Spartans would miss Fowler, the team's best player, for games against Dixie Hollins, Countryside and the district opener against Jefferson.
