Freedom senior Rachel Carlson has orally committed to play softball at the University of Maine, Patriots coach Autum Hernandez said Thursday afternoon.

Carlson, a centerfielder, led Freedom with a .406 batting average, 20 RBIs and 24 runs scored last year during the Patriots’ run to the Class 7A state title game. She also stole six bases and earned first-team all-county honors for Freedom, which finished 22-4.

Oral commitments are non-binding until recruits sign letters of intent during their senior year.
