The biggest question mark for Zephyrhills softball was its pitching. The Bulldogs showed that their depth can also be one of their biggest strengths Friday night in their 8-7 win against previously unbeaten Pasco.

“A good win against a good team,” Zephyrhills coach Craig Milburn said.

The Bulldogs knocked off their rival with 10 hits, including a 2-for-3 night from Tori Jordan, a 3-for-4 game by Marissa Gochenour and three RBI from Lindsey Hupp.

That kept Zephyrhills in the game until freshman Jennifer Rennard entered and pitched three scoreless innings. Milburn credited the different speeds and looks of his pitchers for giving Pasco unique looks.

The Bulldogs (6-2) scored the game-winner in the seventh inning on an error after two attempts to bunt over the leadoff runner.

Zephyrhills’ win keeps the Bulldogs with Pasco, Gulf and Fivay among the top teams in a bunched-up Class 5A, District 8.
