Wharton forward/center Shayla Cooper, who was Hillsborough County's top freshman this past season, has tranferred to Tampa Bay Tech, Wharton girls basketball coach Chad Reed confirmed Wednesday.

Cooper, a Times All-Hillsborough County second-team selection, helped the Wildcats to the Class 6A-8 district title, leading the team in points (16.1), rebounds (8.8) and blocks (2.0). Along with fellow freshman Tesha Hanson, they appeared to be the keystone to years of future success at Wharton.

Instead, Cooper will go to TBT, which has been to the Class 5A region semifinals the past two seasons. The Titans lose their primary post threat, center Jasmine Rodgriguez, to graduation.
