Among the observers at Plant's practice Tuesday afternoon was Furman coach Bobby Lamb, whom Panthers coach Bob Weiner said is heavily interested in junior quarterback Phillip Ely.

Ely didn't get a formal offer Tuesday, but Weiner said he expects one to be forthcoming soon.

Ely enters Friday's Class 5A state title game having completed nearly 60 percent of his throws (118-for-203) for 1,737 yards, 19 touchdowns and three interceptions.
