Following a public-records request from the St. Petersburg Times, Gaither athletic director Henry Strapp revealed his five finalists for the Cowboys football coaching job.

They are former Middleton/Bloomingdale coach Jason Stokes, former Cowboys assistants Brian Emanuel and Kirk Karsen, Cowboys JV coach Bob Griffey, and former Armwood and Lakeland assistant Ron Johnson.

Strapp said Wednesday the school had whittled its search to six finalists; only five were on the list released to the Times.

Strapp, who had more than 30 applicants for the job, said Wednesday the school expects to name its new coach by the end of the week. Gaither is seeking a replacement for Mark Kantor, dismissed in early December after nine seasons.

Kantor is a finalist for the vacancy at Mitchell High.
