Former Gaither guard Malcolm Carney, the Cowboys' leading scorer each of the past two seasons, has signed with Brevard Community College, his AAU coach announced Monday evening.
A lanky (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) left-handed Chicago native, Carney becomes the fourth Hillsborough County-based member of the Florida Hurricanes AAU squad, coached by Ben Bromley, to sign this year. He was preceded by Riverview's Jamal Evans (Polk State), Bloomingdale's Ryan Bethoney (Montreat College) and East Bay's Dario Duque (South Georgia Tech).
An honorable mention pick on the Times' all-county team as a senior, Carney also was a second-team American Division pick on the all-Western Conference squad and competed in the Tampa Bay Basketball Coaches Association's East-West All-Star Game in March.
