NEW PORT RICHEY — The winner of the Sunshine Athletic Conference championships Friday wasn’t too surprising, as Land O’Lakes continued its county dominance.

The Gator boys and girls claimed team titles with scores of 314.5 and 421, respectively, even with a disqualification on the girls side.

“We overcame obstacles and we won,” Gators girls coach Robin Hilgenberg said. “We had a disqualification, but we have overcome that before. This team has great sportsmanship and they went out there to win.”

The Gators were disqualified from the 200 free relay because of an early start by the second swimmer in the relay.

Mitchell’s boys 200 medley relay team (1:45.17) and Sunlake’s 400 free relay team (3:27.72) set conference records.

Sunlake’s girls (372 points) and boys  (275) finished second. Gulf’s Hunter Swartsel won both the 50 (22.85) and the 100 free (49.35).
