Gibbs' Gary Simon narrows schools to Arkansas and Iowa State

Gibbs’ Gary Simon, one of the area’s most recruited players in the Class of 2012, has whittled his list of nearly 20 offers to two schools: Arkansas and Iowa State.

Simon said he plans to visit Iowa State on Jan. 13 and Arkansas on Jan. 20. His trip to Iowa State could be pushed back though, Simon said.

“Those are the only two schools I’m looking at right now,” Simon said. “Something else could come up in the next few weeks.”

Simon, a first-team all-Pinellas County selection as a defensive back, had a spectacular senior season with seven interceptions and more than 300 yards receiving. He is being recruited as a defensive back by nearly every school.

Though he has decided on his visits, Simon said his decision likely will be determined on signing day Feb. 1.

“I’m going to wait to see if any other offers come around,” Simon said.
