Gibbs hires Ed Jackson as girls basketball coach

Gibbs went to back to its recent past, naming Ed Jackson as coach of the girls basketball team.

Jackson coached the Gladiators from 2005-08. He was an assistant with the boys basketball team this past season.

"There was some familiarity there," Gibbs athletic director Mark Robertson said. "Ed knows the school and the community well. It was an easy decision for us to make."

Jackson has the most experience of any girls basketball coach in the county. He coached Pinellas Park for 17 seasons, winning 289 games and leading the Patriots to five district titles, five region titles and three straight state final appearances (1989-91), where they lost each time.

Jackson also coached Lakewood from 1995-2004.

He replaces Angela Meiser, who stepped down in November after three seasons because of health issues. Teddy Johnson took over on an interim basis and led Gibbs to a runnerup finish in Class 5A, District 12.
