Tampa Catholic senior basketball player Sarah Brennan committed to the University of Tampa Monday afternoon.

Brennan, a Times Hillsborough County first-team selection last season, helped lead the Crusaders to their first state tournament appearance in program history.

A career 1,000-point scorer, the 5-foot-11 forward is averaging a double-double (13.3 points, 10.5 rebounds a game) for the 17-1 Crusaders.

"UT really has the best of everything," Brennan said Tuesday by text message. "I will get a good education and play for a great basketball team at the same time. The location is definitely a plus. I'm excited to stay close to home."

This year's UT women's team is currently 13-2 and ranked 14th in the nation in Division II.

Brennan was also being recruited by UNC-Greensboro, Emory and Oglethorpe, TC coach Nancy Kroll said.

She's the second Tampa Catholic player to commit within a week. Last week, senior Colette Eule committed to Air Force.
