Springstead's preseason began with just two golfers after six graduated last spring.

By the end of the first week, the Eagles had a team of five including freshman phenom Megan Berube.

In another season where Hernando County teams have struggled with numbers and skill, Berube has offered a sound game with power a precision.

Berube finished in first place in all of her matches, averaging 37 strokes per nine holes.

Last week, Berube shot a 33 on the World Woods executive course - a par 29.

"I think she's fully capable of shooting a 33 on a regular course," Eagles coach Kathleen Long said. "Her strong point is her demeanor. Nothing gets to her, and she's not dramatic. She's well rounded and just a nice kid."

Long said one of Berube's strong suits is how she encourages her teammates, often shouting to inspire her teammates throughout a match.
