Newsome's Class 5A region final at Lakeland George Jenkins, scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., has been postponed because of the heavy showers anticipated to pound the bay area.
The game. which was originally scheduled to be played Saturday at 1 p.m., will now be moved back to 5 p.m. on Saturday because players from both teams are taking standardized tests in the morning. Newsome coach Kelly Townsend said six of her players will be taking tests Saturday.
The Wolves (17-3-4) are in their seventh straight region final game, trying for their first state tournament berth since 2007. They advanced with a 3-1 win over district rival East Bay in the region semis
George Jenkins (22-0-1), ranked No. 3 in the nation by ESPNRise, has ended Newsome's season in the region final the past two years. The Eagles beat the Wolves 1-0 in overtime last year and handed them a 3-2 defeat in 2008.
Berkeley Prep's Class 3A game at Fort Myers Bishop Verot is still on schedule, Bucs coach Ken Roberts said, and Tampa Prep's Class 2A game at Palm Beach King's Academy is also still on, Terps coach Cindy Schofield said.
