Tennis star Nicola Wellman has signed a letter-of-intent to continue her career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Wellman went 52-3 in singles play during her three-year career at River Ridge. She was also 34-2 in double competition.
As a sophomore, Wellman advanced to the Class 3A state tournament as an individual and advanced to the semifinal round. Also that year, she qualified for states in doubles and made it to the finals with her partner Tijana Subotic.
Last season, Wellman led the Royal Knights to a district title and advanced to the region finals. She was named to the St. Petersburg Times' all-North Suncoast first team following the season.
Wellman is not competing in high school for her senior season, deciding instead to compete on the International Tennis Federation junior circuit.
Liberty is a Division I school that competes in the Big South Conference.
