Grant leads strong group of Pasco athletes

Midway through the weekend’s Sling and Shoot tournament at USF, Pasco athlete Janarion Grant stated the obvious.

“We have a lot of skills,” Grant said of the Pirates’ running backs and receivers.

Grant is one of them. The 5-foot-9, 163-pound junior starred on offense and defense. Grant made some key interceptions at cornerback and streaked for a touchdown on a 30-yard strike from quarterback Jacob Guy against Chiefland.

“I had to get my speed up, keep my eye on the ball and catch it,” Grant said.

He also made an impressive throw as quarterback.

Guy took a few plays off at QB on Saturday after spending the previous day throwing at a Florida recruiting camp. So Grant stepped in.

The lefty lobbed a fade to the 6-foot-5 Guy for a late touchdown.

“Janarion’s just an athlete,” Guy said. “I don’t know if we have a quarterback for next year, so it might be him.”
