Sickles defensive tackle Ian Hopkins, a third-team Class 4A all-state pick as a senior, has signed with Midwest juco powerhouse Butler (Kansas) Community College, Gryphons coach Pat O'Brien confirmed Tuesday evening.
Hopkins becomes the second Hillsborough County player to sign with the Grizzlies, joining Armwood tailback Sherman Jessie.
Despite frequent double-teams, Hopkins (6-foot-2, 284 pounds) collected 10 sacks and four pass deflections last season for Sickles (8-3), which reached the 4A playoffs.
Butler has won six juco national titles since 1981, the last coming in 2008.
