One of Tampa Bay’s top girls basketball prospects has made her college commitment.
Gulf senior Kayla Kivinski orally committed to Missouri Southern over the weekend, Kivinski said Monday morning.
The two-time all-Suncoast wing averaged 19.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.1 blocks per game last fall to help take the rebuilding Bucs to the Class 5A, District 8 championship. Kivinski had one of the top performances in any sport last season, recording a triple-double with 49 points against Wiregrass Ranch.
As a sophomore, the 5-foot-9 Kivinski was the Times’ North Suncoast player of the year (18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds per game) for the Class 5A region finalists.
The sharpshooter has made 51 percent of her field goal attempts over her three-year career while shooting 72 percent from the free-throw line.
Missouri Southern is an NCAA Division II program in Joplin, Mo. and a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Lions finished 14-13 last season.
Oral commitments are non-binding until recruits sign letters of intent during their senior year.
