Gulf senior football standout Madison Burr has committed to Division I-AA Wofford, Bucs coach Jay Fulmer said today.
As a senior, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Burr passed for 855 yards, rushed for 749 yards and had 191 receiving yards. It is not known what position he will play at Wofford, but Fulmer said he thinks Burr will start out at QB.
“They’ve been on him for a year,” Fulmer said.
Burr visited Wofford last weekend.
“He said it’s a great place and that the stadium is real nice and the facilities are unbelievable,” Fulmer said. “He’s real excited about it. He couldn’t leave there without making a commitment. He really liked it up there a lot, and likes the coaches.”
Wofford plays in the powerful Southern Conference.
It went 3-8 last season. One of its losses was to USF; another was to Wisconsin.
Burr’s commitment might not end his recruitment. According to Fulmer, there’s a chance I-A schools may jump on board late in the process.
