The waiting is over for Gulf football standout Will Burbridge.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, who projects as a linebacker in college, will sign a letter-of-intent with Jacksonville on Wednesday. The Dolphins are a Division I-AA program.
“He’s real excited,” Gulf coach Jay Fulmer said.
Burbridge rushed for 585 yards on 70 carries last fall and was among the area’s better defenders.
At JU, he plans to study marine science.
“He knows he’s going to get a top-notch private-school education,” Fulmer said. “That marine biology program is something Will is very interested in.”
According to Fulmer, Burbridge could see the field next season.
“He’s got a tremendous opportunity to play right away,” Fulmer said. “They’re really counting on him to be a great player.”
JU is coached by former Florida Gators QB Kerwin Bell.
