TRINITY - Mitchell will enter an enormous Class 6A, District 6 showdown with Sunlake without two starters.

RB/LB Max Gebler is out with a bruised rib, Mustangs coach Scott Schmitz said after Wednesday’s practice. Gebler, a 5-foot-7 senior, has rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns in Mitchell’s Wing-T offense and ranks third on the team with 29 tackles.

LB Jacob Guzman will miss the game after dislocating his shoulder during the first defensive series in Mitchell’s 46-3 win over River Ridge last week. Guzman has racked up 24 tackles and four sacks for Mitchell (4-0).

“We’ve been fortunate that their backups have done a real good job,” Schmitz said. “We knew we had some depth, but we can’t test too much more of it.”

RB/SS Christian Trinidad missed Wednesday’s practice because he was getting a CT scan after experiencing concussion-like symptoms, but Schmitz said he expects the junior to play this week. Trinidad has rushed for 354 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
