Derek Harrington has been named the head soccer coach for the East Lake girls soccer team the school has announced.

Harrington takes over for John Orr, who stepped down after the 2009-2010 season. Orr went 27-11-2 over two seasons as the Eagles head coach.

Harrington coached the Cardinal Mooney boys soccer team from 2000-2005 and took the Cougars to the Class 3A state championship game in 2003. He was named the coach of the year by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune following that season. Harrington also led the Shorecrest boys soccer team to the region semifinals in 2007, and has enjoyed coaching stops at Roncalli High in Indiana and Augusta Prep in Georgia.

Recently, Harrington has been coaching with the Clearwater Chargers U16 and U18 boys academy teams and with Florida's Olympic Development Program.

Eagles assistant coach Charley Ferro will return in that same capacity this season for East Lake.
