Armwood center Cameron Dees engaged in his first practice of the 2011 preseason Wednesday with two black knee braces and one vow.
He's playing next week in Las Vegas.
Dees, who suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee at the same UCF summer camp where TB Matt Jones sustained one in his right, said Thursday he bumped his recovery up a few days to resume practicing this week. Jones, who observed Thursday's practice with an ice pack on his knee, won't play in next week's nationally televised game at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.
Dees will, or so he insists.
"I will play in Vegas," said Dees, who had surgery about five weeks ago.
Hawks coach Sean Callahan, whose team worked out in shorts and shoulder pads Thursday, wasn't quite as definitive, but did acknowledge Dees is on schedule to play, barring any complications.
For Dees, the game holds more significance than mere national implications. He's seeking his 40th consecutive varsity start at Bishop Gorman, a streak that includes 10 starts as a freshman at King.
