Hayes, Harvey earn player of the year honors

Four days after leading Tampa Prep to the Class A boys soccer state title, senior F Jordan Hayes has been named the state's player of the year for his classification by the Florida Dairy Farmers.

Classmate Kevin Harvey, the top scorer for 2A state runner-up Berkeley Prep, earned the same honor in his class.

The two are among five finalists for the FDF Boys Soccer Player of the Year Award -- essentially the Florida Mr. Futbol Award. Balloting will be conducted among Florida Athletic Coaches Association district soccer chairmen and state media representatives.

Hayes, who had two goals -- both on headers -- in Friday's 3-0 romp of Fort Myers Evangelical, finished the season with 30 goals and 18 assists. Harvey, whose team fell in double overtime to Melbourne West Shore in Friday's 2A final, finished the season with 27 goals and 15 assists.
