Fivay has promoted interim coach Matt Hayes to head baseball coach, Hayes confirmed Thursday in a text message.

Hayes served as Justin Kunick’s top assistant and protégé until Hayes assumed head coaching duties when Kunick was diagnosed with cancer. Kunick died in April at age 32.

Fivay started last season with a 4-1 record before faltering late at the end of an emotional season. The Falcons finished 14-12.
