Former Hernando baseball standout Ian Townsend plans to sign with East Carolina on Monday, his father, Phil, said in an email.

Townsend was the Times’ 2010 North Suncoast player of the year after batting .473 with 26 RBIs and 35 runs scored as a junior for the Leopards.

At St. Johns River State College this spring, Townsend ranks among the team’s leaders with a .257 batting average, 11 doubles, 19 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He’s also tied for the team lead with three home runs.
