Hernando has traded in one brutal non-district opponent for another.
The Leopards will host Cocoa on Sept. 27, Hernando athletic director Kevin Bittinger said Thursday morning. The contest makes up for a Week 2 game against Jacksonville Kenny, which was canceled because of the threat of storms.
Cocoa is a perennial state power. The Tigers (1-1) advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals last year and won three consecutive state titles from 2008-10.
Cocoa is ranked fifth in 4A by the AP and sixth among small schools in FloridaHSFootball’s media poll. *
*Full disclosure: I’m a voter in floridahsfootball.com’s poll. I had Cocoa sixth, too.
