Hernando outfielder Louis Colaiacomo, who was instrumental in the Leopards' run to the Class 4A baseball region finals last season, has signed with Marion Military Institute according to Hernando head coach Tim Sims.
Marion Military Institute is a junior college located in Marion, Ala.
Colaiacomo had offers from a number of in-state junior colleges but enjoyed his relationship with Marion head coach Jake Wells and decided to sign with the Tigers.
"Marion did a great job of staying in contact with him," Sims said. "He went up for a trip and liked it. It's the perfect situation for him. It was one of those instances where Louis liked everything about Jake, and Jake liked everything about Louis."
Colaiacomo hit .479 with 14 doubles, two home runs and 27 RBIs a year ago for the Leopards, who completed the 2010 season with a 21-10 record. Colaiacomo was named to the St. Petersburg Times' all-North Suncoast first team.
As a senior, the 5-foot-9, 190 pound switch hitter is batting .480 with 8 RBIs, three doubles and two home runs through eight games.
Colaiacomo becomes the third Hernando senior baseball player to sign at the junior college level this year. In January, Brett Maggard and Ian Townsend both signed with St. Johns River Community College
